The girls and I have been feeling crafty lately. They made these adorable shoulder bags…perfect for learning how to sew a straight seam for their 4-H projects…and I made these ultra-fun, napkin-covered throw pillows, adding a splash of color to our living room.

I got the idea from this post on Martha Stewart last year. I bought some cloth napkins (on clearance, of course!) a few weeks later, washed and folded them, and set them aside in the linen closet. There they stayed, until the creative bug hit this spring.

My grandma had given me these homemade pillow forms for my back when I was pregnant, and I never bothered to cover them. (It’s hard to feel crafty when you’re eight months pregnant in the middle of summer…even harder to feel crafty when you’re pregnant again two years later and potty training a toddler!)

Needless to say, it was time for those pillow forms to get a facelift. Three seams and a few button flourishes later, and I had an instant spring update for my living room. I liked the pillows so much, I made more for my bedroom. The bright poppies add just the right amount of color to my neutral palette.

Anybody else feeling crafty? What’s on your project wish list this summer?
