Now that I’ve shared how to make a ruffled Red Heart Sashay scarf, I felt it was only right to share three tips for tying a ruffled sashay scarf. After all, you don’t want to go to the time and (very small, woo-hoo!) expense of making the scarf if you don’t know how to show it off to its full advantage, right?
But first, some background. Why in the world am I posting about tying scarves on Simple Life and Home? Because a scarf can be one of the frugal mom’s best wardrobe accessories. You can use it to dress up a T-shirt and jeans, add a splash of color to a monochromatic outfit, or enhance a dressy outfit with some texture. So many options with just one scarf.
Speaking of options, here are three possibilities for tying the ruffled sashay scarf, allowing you to create a boa-style, a twisty-style, and an infinity-style scarf. These three choices just add to the variety and flexibility a ruffled sashay scarf offers, letting you change your look without depleting your budget!
Boa-style scarf tying
With the boa style, start at the front of your neck and bring the ends back behind your head.
Cross the ends and bring them forward again.
Then tie the two ends in a loose knot just below the bend of the boa. Fluff.
Twisty-style scarf tying
With the twisty style, fold the scarf in half. One side will form a loop, while the other will have two loose ends.
Place the middle of this folded scarf at the center of the back of your neck and bring both ends forward. Pull the loose ends through the middle of the loop and fluff.
Infinity-style scarf tying
With the infinity look, start by tying the two ends of your scarf together to form one big circle.
Wrap the circle around your neck, twist, and repeat.
Bonus tip #1: Be sure to fluff the scarf to show off all those ruffles.
Bonus tip #2: Be careful not to double knot the scarf, or you might never find the knot in the middle of all those ruffles! Instead, tie it very loosely so you can un-tie it at the end of the day. (It’s beautiful, but you certainly don’t want to be stuck wearing it for the rest of your life because you couldn’t take it off!) 🙂

I made a scarf but it seems to have loosen up. Would you know why it would do that?
Hi, Janicia. Without seeing the scarf, it’s hard to say why it would loosen up. I am far from a crochet expert, but I guess the first thing I would do is make sure the knots at each end are good and tight. I would also want to know what size crochet hook you used, but as long as the scarf isn’t unraveling, it’s probably okay. Let me know if it still bothers you, and I’ll do a little more digging to troubleshoot the problem.
I have a client that said she wanted an infinity sashay scarf and I was trying to think of a way to sew it together but you information is perfect. why would you want to have only a infinity scarf when you can have all three. Thank you.
